Introduction

Since the people over at the WordPress Plugin Directory decided that commercial plugins can no longer be listed in their directory, the upgrade process for our Store Locator Plus product is not a little less turn-key. Upgrades to the plus edition of the produce no longer appear in the WordPress Plugin Directory. As such, all upgrades need to be done manually. Luckily the process is somewhat painless. We'll walk you through it here.

Step 1: Backup Your Customizations

If you have made any changes to the code, have edited the CSS files, or have uploaded any images or icons to the Store Locator Plus directory (./plugins/store-locator-plus/), you will need to save a copy of those files.

If you are not sure or do not know what this means, then you probably have not customized the Store Locator Plus product. You can skip to the next step.

There have been a number of changes and additions to Store Locator Plus v2.0. It is recommended that you copy your updated files individually, review the new directory structure and file changes, and then re-patch the changes program files one-by-one. Please note that the CSS and image paths both have changed as have the locations of multiple program files. Some sections of the code have also been significantly re-worked.

Copying your modified program files over the v2.0 files may not work.

Step 2: Deactivate Store Locator Plus v1.X

To install the update you must first de-activate the plugin, we will uninstall it on the next step. You de-activate plugins from the main WordPress plugin menu.

Step 3: Delete Store Locator Plus v1.X

After you have de-activated Store Locator Plus v1.X you can then delete it. If you do not delete the v1.X installation, when you go to install v2.0 it will tell you that the directory already exists and stop the upgrade.

Deleting v1.X only deletes the files in the Store Locator directory. Your settings and locations are stored in the database and will come back when the new version is installed.

Step 4: Install Store Locator Plus v2.0

Download the latest Store Locator Plus release from our website.

Step 5: Install Store Locator Plus v2.0

From the WordPress admin menu go to plugins->add new and then select upload on the in-page menu.

Select the new WordPress zip file and upload it to WordPress.

Step 5: Activate

You are ready to activate version 2.0. All of your settings will be retained with the exception of the home and location icons.

You will need to reset your home and end icons.
