Introduction

Store Locator Plus is a WordPress plugin that provides a way to enter a list of physical store locations via the admin panel. Once stores are entered they can be located using an interactive search form and map. The form and map are inserted into any post or page via the [STORE-LOCATOR] shortcode.

Why Store Locator Plus?

Store Locator Plus is based on the popular Store Locator plugin with several new features as well as some work done "under the hood" to address various bugs or performance issues in the original codebase. We found Store Locator to be very close to our needs but not exactly right for our client implementations. Since the original author was officially on hiatus for at least a year per his own website and blog postings, we were forced to implement our own changes. Rather than keep them to ourselves we decided to publish them via the standard WordPress channels. Since we are a commercial development and consulting firm we charge a nominal fee for to license this plugin to cover the inevitable support costs that we incur when some clients call or email us for assistance. Custom work is also available. Our hourly rates for custom coding is published on our main site at http://www.cybersprocket.com/.

What's New/Different?

Filter by tags. Searches can be filtered to show only those results that have been tagged with the word(s) entered by the user.

Country data. We added a discrete data element for recording the country as part of the location. We've added the ability to turn on/off country searching on the search form and extended the add location/edit location forms to manage the country data.

Static Starting Image. You can now set a static image to show when the location search page first appears. The static image will appear in place of the Google Map until someone executes a search.

Revamped search form. We've updated the search form making it more "skinnable" via the included CSS files. We did the same for the admin panel forms, though less people will be interested in modifying/skinning those.

Internal improvements. We've fixed several bugs that were in the code and also improved performance in several areas. Code documentation and commenting was extended as was code formatting to make it easier for the WordPress hackers out there to mod the plugin on their own.

Hundreds of bug and warning fixes. We cleaned up a lot of warnings and bugs, especially for sites that are either using multisite or 3.x versions of WordPress. The site will also run on servers that are running higher levels of PHP logging than the default error levels.

Multisite and WordPress 3.x Tested. We've run the plugin on both our multisite and latest WordPress 3.X installations. It works out of the box on both types of sites.

CSV Bulk Uploads. Add hundreds, even thousands of locations via a simple CSV file upload. Each location is geocoded as it is loaded into the database, saving hours of manual data entry via the web based entry form.
